Quick Navigation
As we all know after Mafia III the last games which was launched in October 7 2016, we finally get Mafia: The Old Country is a 2025 action-adventure game created by Hangar 13 and released by 2K. It is the fourth main installment in the Mafia franchise and the fifth overall. It is a prequel to the series, taking place decades before the events of the first game.

Storyline Recap
Story begins with Enzo Favara, a young kid who was forced into horrific bonded labor in Sicilian sulfur mines. Following a catastrophic tragedy and a near-fatal fight, Enzo is taken in by the Torrisi crime family, headed by Don Bernardo Torrisi.
Enzo’s goal for joining the family is not wealth, but rather a fundamental need for independence and the ability to determine his own destiny, which he never had in the mines. His rise through the family levels is a classic rags-to-riches story, as he engages in corrupt transactions and turf disputes with competing groups such as the Spados and Baron Fontineello’s party.
The plot revolves around the forbidden affair between Enzo and the Don’s daughter, Isabella Torrisi.
Free Ride Update Details
Mafiosi, the Valle Dorata is calling to you again. On November 20, Mafia: The Old Country’s Free Ride Update will be available to all players for free. It includes a new mode, new challenges, new things to gather, and much more.
The main attraction of the Free Ride Update is Free Ride mode, which completely replaces the previous Explore mode, but there are also many new features to enjoy. Here is a summary of the top-level additions to give you an idea of the update’s overall scope.
They have also included some developer insights from Hangar 13’s Associate Design Director Josh Zammit; be sure you also check out his developer Q&A over on the PlayStation Blog.
“Free Ride has always been close to our hearts,” says Zammit. “The team pours so much care and attention into our worlds, and it gives us a reason to spend more time exploring them, and more importantly, finding new ways to have fun.”
*Base game required. Some content requires unlocking via gameplay.

Mafia: The Old Country’s depiction of 1900s Sicily may be experienced in new ways with Free Ride, which allows you to explore the area at your own speed and take on a number of additional challenges. The narrative elements of Enzo’s adventure are unrelated to this mode, which is mostly concerned with new gameplay material.
Nevertheless, you can unlock a number of challenges in Free Ride by finishing the main story chapter. As you progress through the tale, you have the option to switch between the campaign and Free Ride via the pause and main menus, or you may wait until you’ve completed every chapter to start Free Ride with all of the first challenges.
You can earn more Dinari (the in-game cash gained through gaming) to spend at Pasquale’s store by completing each challenge at one of three reward tiers. As you advance through Challenges, which unlock in order, new things appear in the store; complete them all to receive the greatest rewards.

Circuit Race (3 Challenges): Get behind the wheel of your fastest car and complete a set number of laps around the track ahead of competing drivers.
Road Sprint (3 Challenges): Race against multiple opponents across the Valle Dorata in these challenging point-to-point races.
Time Trial (6 Challenges): Try to beat the clock and your previous bests as you barrel through these courses without opponents getting in your way. Checkpoint Time Trials take place across a set path, while Freeform Time Trials challenge you to find the fastest possible route between two points.
Horse Race (3 Challenges): Gallop faster than the opposing riders in these intense lap races that require smart use of your spurs.
Enzo’s collection gets a long list of additions as part of this Free Ride Update, and every new weapon, Charm, car, and outfit is fully usable in the main campaign too. Here’s a quick rundown of how many items have been added to the game:
- 16 new Outfits (& 3 new Hats that can be equipped with any outfit)
- 4 new Knives
- 3 new Guns
- 3 new Charms
- 2 new Cars
“My favorite item coming with the update is one of our new cars, the Beneventi Montanaro,” states Zammit. It is a pleasure to drive and is based on the original four-by-four. Driving over fields, uphill, and taking shortcuts is a lot of fun because it performs well on grassy and dirt surfaces. Although it’s not the fastest vehicle available, this vehicle excels in a few races.
“Esploratore is a favorite in terms of new charms,” Zammit goes on. Esploratore helps you locate some of the world’s most difficult-to-find collectibles by alerting you to their proximity. Hopefully, it will help the accomplishment hunters out there locate those foxes more easily.”
Don’t wait to shop at vendors, equip upgrades, or loot fallen enemies
Quick Tips
You should make sure to spend your hard-earned Dinari on guns, automobiles, horses, charms, and more if you have the chance to shop for new items and upgrades—at Pasquale’s or Valerio’s, for instance—because you never know where the tale may lead you. Additionally, items can be bought from any stable, closet, garage, or weapon locker.
Charms offer passive advantages while equipped, making them particularly valuable long-term purchases. You’ll be more equipped to handle whatever it takes to finish a task if you have a greater selection of Charms. When you gather Charms, you may use the Charms screen to assign them to slots on Enzo’s rosary. You can improve the rosary by buying additional Charm slots at Pasquale’s store.
Whether you’re searching for souvenirs, plundering the corpses of defeated adversaries, or just admiring the natural beauty of your surroundings, this advise about living in the present rather than putting things off applies. It’s also important to remember that unlocked items are saved to your profile, allowing you to retrieve them all in Chapter Replay, Explore, or a second playthrough.
The addition of knife-centric combat mechanics is an exciting new element in Mafia: The Old Country, with three different types of knives that Enzo has the option to wield. Here’s a quick overview of each variety:
- Scannaturi: These knives can be thrown.
- Rasolu: These knives allow for one-hit kills during active combat.
- Stiletto: These knives have the highest durability.

Many climactic, one-on-one knife fights are designed to be intense, so staying aware of certain elements might help elevate you from an inexperienced novice to a professional duelist. For example, try to listen for critical audio cues signaling your enemy’s next move, and watch for red glints indicating unparryable attacks that must be dodged.
Keep in mind that the timing windows for different inputs (dodge, parry, etc.) are unique, and button-mashing won’t get Enzo very far in these dramatic standoffs. The key to winning is variety. Change your strategy often to maintain the upper hand.
The in-game tutorials and mid-fight feedback will communicate everything you need to know, and staying aware of those key audio-visual cues will give you a killer advantage.
You don’t have to play previous Mafia entries to enjoy this crime drama
Expertly sneak through the shadows with these stealth gameplay tips:
- Make use of Enzo’s Instinct ability, which allows him to see through objects and detect enemies in his immediate environment.
- Remember that there are often places to stash bodies in each area, which will prevent guards from being alerted by the sight of a corpse.
- Don’t forget to throw coins or bottles to distract enemies so you can sneak by or eliminate them while they investigate the audible misdirection.
- Some stealth sequences may have multiple points of entry or exit for Enzo to utilize.
- Throw a Scannaturi knife to perform a ranged stealth kill. Just be sure to collect it again afterward!
